Welcome to my professional electronic portfolio. The intent of this portfolio is to showcase some of my accomplishments while I completed my Master’s in Special Education with a concentration in the Education of Individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing at the University of British Columbia.
I have used the metaphor of movement to describe my journey through my Master’s. I have been moved by Deaf Education. I am moved by the students who have learned so much under my teaching. I am moved by the people who support the education of students who are deaf and hard of hearing. I am moved by the people who passionately believe in their Deaf culture. And, I am moved by the beauty of American Sign Language.
I have also been literally moved by Deaf Education. I have travelled over 11,500 km to complete my Master’s. I was living in Guelph, ON, when I first thought about completing my Master’s, and I decided to move back home to Edmonton, AB. I was accepted to the University of British Columbia’s Deaf Education program, and I moved to Vancouver, BC in July 2006. I have moved back-and-forth from Edmonton to Vancouver for three summers like a pendulum. I also completed two practicum placements where I moved to Burnaby, BC and Calgary, AB. And, I spent six months working for the Calgary Board of Education, where I continued to swing like a pendulum moving between Calgary and Edmonton every weekend to be with family, friends, and my fiancé.
